PEG Feeding

PEG feeding tubes are now increasingly used for enteral nutrition for both children and adults who cannot maintain adequate nutrition with oral intake.

Aims

• PEG feeding training will raise awareness of:
• The various types of PEG feeding and medication administration techniques
• The purpose of PEG feeding
• Conditions which may require a PEG
• Recognising, dealing with and reporting complications
• The care and maintenance of enteral feeding tubes
• Documentation and record keeping

This training will ensure staff have sufficient knowledge to work safely with patients on PEG Feeding and effectively care for those who have one.

Learning Outcome

On completion of the training staff will be:

Be able to demonstrate improved awareness of PEG feeding.

Understand the common causes of requiring a PEG feeding.

Be able to confidently handle the PEG machines and associated tubing and administering feed.

Course Duration

This course lasts approximately 3 hours.
